Pledge of Alliance

I pledge alliance to my creator
the maker of all things true
who made this earth a lovely green
the skies and water blue

I’ll do my best, at least I think I’ll try
to pray at least once a day
while giving thanks with all my heart
and with the words that I say

I’m grateful for the gifts I have
and for the ones I’ve known
our experience here is temporary
while living in flesh and bone

Perhaps to heaven I shall return
and see my loved ones there
until that day arrives at my door
I still have burdens to bear
