DESCRIPTION:

Gattaca is a Sci-Fi thriller.

In the not-too-distant future, a less-than-perfect man wants to travel to the stars. But society has categorized Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke) as less than suitable given his genetic make-up.

According to society, Vincent is one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. In this clip, Vincent's parents, Elias Koreas and Jayne Brook, meet with Blair Underwood, their Geneticist, to create a brother (Loren Dean) for Vincent to grow up with.

At the very end of the clip, it is clear medical science conveniently describes embryos (human beings) as "human possibilities".

The original film with these scenes were lost or destroyed, and the only existing copies found were on VHS.

SELECTED SCRIPT:

---| First Script

Husband (Antonio): We were just wondering if, if it is good to just leave a few things to, to chance?

Geneticist (Blair Underwood): We want to give your child the best possible start. Believe me, we have enough imperfection built in already. Your child doesn't need any more additional burdens. Keep in mind, this child is still you. Simply, the best, of you. You could conceive naturally a thousand times and never get such a result.

---| Second Script

Geneticist (Blair Underwood): We can plant the most successful "pre-embryo" right away if you like.

Wife (Jayne Brook): What will happen to the others?

Geneticist (Blair Underwood): They are not babies Marie, merely human possibilities smaller than a grain of sand. See ...

Please Note:

The inescapable fact remains, that "merely human possibilities" are human beings at their earliest biological beginning.
