DESCRIPTION:

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, June 10th, 1979, Rev. C.L. Franklin was shot twice at point-blank range during an attempted robbery at his home on Detroit's West Side. He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital on the nearby West Grand Boulevard. He remained in a coma for the next five (5) years.

His children moved him back to his house six months after the shooting; he received twenty-four (24) hour nursing care and remained at home until the middle of 1984. He died on Friday, July 27, 1984, at the age of sixty-nine (69), in Detroit's New Light Nursing Home.

The Rev. C.L. Franklin was entombed in Detroit's Woodlawn Cemetery on North Woodward Avenue. Rev. C.L. Franklin's long time friend, the Rev. Jasper Williams Jr., of the Salem Bible Church of Atlanta, Georgia, gave the eulogy.

The Rev. C.L. Franklin was a good soldier.
