DESCRIPTION:

Here are Dr. John "J" Vernon McGee comments on Proverbs 23:10 in regards to removing the stones that marked the boundaries of the fields. The Bible clearly teaches that the children of Israel were NOT to remove not the ancient landmark which their fathers had set.

Within context, as you can read for yourself, Proverbs 23:10 is referring to "the ancient border" or "boundary" by which lands, estates, and inheritances, were marked, bounded, and distinguished. To remove the ancient landmarks was contrary to the law, and a curse was denounced upon those that did it (see Deuteronomy 19:14; Deuteronomy 27:17 and Proverbs 22:28). Again, this was considered a very heinous crime in the Bible.

FURTHER THOUGHTS:

I agree with Dr. McGee's interpretation of Proverbs 23:10. I believe this verse does not speak of removing confederate statues. With that said, when I think about my great grandfather living and dying in the state of Georgia, I understand "why" some want to tear the confederate statues down.
