Happy Dogs Having Fun In The Garden
Let's learn about our pets!
Did you know?
▶ Dogs do not sweat by salivating. They sweat through the pads of their feet.
▶ They can locate the source of a sound in 6/100ths of a second, by using their swivelling ears like radar dishes.
▶ As dogs don't have fingerprints, each dog has a unique pattern on their nose. Few countries even take noseprints of dogs.
▶ They can see ultraviolet light, and don’t need a compass for direction because they can sense the earth’s magnetic fields.
▶ Dogs hate some things about humans. Some signs of affection we enjoy such as hugs or kissing can be annoying for dogs.

▸The English Poiner is a medium-sized, athletic breed of pointing dog, built for endurance and speed.
▸The Pointer takes its name from the stance it adopts when it detects the scent of game, "pointing" at the hidden game as a visible signal to the hunter that it has found something and where it is.
▸When a Pointer scents game birds he stands tall and still, one foot raised off the ground, pointing the hunter in the right direction.
▸It is the most popular pointing dog breed used by sporting estates in the United Kingdom.
▸Before the development of guns, this was an essential skill, as birds were netted rather than shot.
▸Pointers were one of the first 9 breeds registered in America in 1878, and were recognized by the AKC when it was founded in 1884.
▸Cocker Spaniels are some of the most popular dogs in the entire world that were originally known for their hunting skills.
▸The Cocker Spaniel was reared to flush small prey from the brush for hunters. The name 'Cocker' is derived from woodcock, a bird the Cocker Spaniel was particularly adept at finding.
▸The Cocker Spaniel is also one of the smallest members of the Gundog group and originates from Spain, tracing back to the 14th century. The word “spaniel” translates as Spanish dog.
▸The Bichon is a companion dog that is gentle mannered, sensitive, playful, affectionate, intelligent and energetic.
▸Bichons were popular in royal courts during the reigns of France's King Francis I and England's King Henry III in the 16th century.
▸In the United States, Sammi Calvetti from Illinois is the oldest known Bichon Frise. This furbaby died of old age in February 2020 at 18.5 years old.
▸They were often included in portraits of royalty. In particular, Francisco de Goya included Bichons in several of his works.
▸The ancestral Bichons travelled much and were often used as barter by Italian sailors as they moved from continent to continent.
▸The Bichon Frise became eligible to enter the AKC's Miscellaneous Class on 1 September 1971.
