Rep. Matt Shea earned a B.A. in history and political science at Gonzaga University, Graduating Cum Laude from Gonzaga School of Law. He served two combat tours in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal and Combat Infantryman's Badge.

In November 2008, Matt Shea was elected to the House of Representatives to serve the 4th Legislative District of Washington.
