The king and his son's marriage

This parable was provided to us for the purposes of instructing the importance of being prepared. If we have any intentions in joining with Jesus, and we understand he has set the conditions of that union, then we'll listen to what he's indicating ... if you love me then you'll do whatsoever I command of you ... love one another. If we're considering a relationship and we have established the conditions of that relationship and our partner failed to meet those conditions, and failed miserably without any intention of ever trying to meet them, then why would we pursue the relationship? Jesus is telling us directly, there are conditions with this union ... you must attend to the will of God.
