Under the most up-to-date taxonomy, there are 227 bird species endemic to the Philippines. Many of these are restricted to specific islands; 46 species are found only on Luzon, 34 species only on Mindanao, 23 species only on Palawan, and 124 species on other islands or multiple islands.
