There is a boldness that we read about in the word that Paul speaks about. He asks for prayer, "that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the Gospel." And to multitudes of Christians, they see that it ends there. The perception of boldness in Christ is that of an overt posture of strong, loud talking and proclaiming. However, there is no potent force of love behind it. It takes on a kind of left-handed delivery of the word of God. It appeals to the flesh or soulish driven believer. They think that the loud banging gong of their voices is the proof that God is speaking through these ministers.
But that could not be any further from the truth. And this kind of flesh boldness is not only about preaching and teaching God's word. It has everything to do with the nature of the born again man or woman in the common daily life. In essence, there are many layers to the boldness of God by His Holy Spirit. The boldness that the people saw in Peter and John was more than what most what is thought of at first. Yes these men were demonstrative in their affection for the Lord and His eternal word.
But there are other kinds of boldness we have to explore. There is a human boldness and a spiritual one. Both are needed in righteous delivery of intended need. One can be used to bring either total harm and destruction to others, all in the name of "doctrine." While the other good kind of boldness injects itself in what is worthy to stand up for and defend. The boldness Christ had was in the power of humility. He was not boldly proclaiming at His trial in boldness of speech that He was about to conquer sin, death and hell on His cross. No, He was meek and humble, which is tremendous boldness spiritually speaking.
He went and did it boldly in that humility. "He humbled Himself and became obedient even unto the death of the cross." That is pure boldness and power. And there were other times He let out heavy handed, articulate, judicial boldness against those that were offensive to Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is bold in both the needful correction of mankind, and also in brave, strong, sacrificial love. The boldness Jesus gives demonstrates and backs up everything given to us in in this life. There is also a gentle boldness that speaks quietly, and whispers, even in silence. That boldness is evident in those that others have seen that makes them "other worldly." People that "are no more of this world any more than Christ is of this world," for though they live in this earthly mortal world, they are those who live very near to Christ always.
"When we find a man meditating on the words of God, my friends, that man is full of boldness and is successful." Dwight L. Moody
