CHAPTER 016 - THE GHOST OF MONUMENT

Lowen skulks about the outside of the palisade of Monument while he prepares to rescue his friends and brother.

Paul tells both Boone and Mira that he met the young man at the northern palisade, and that no one is to eat any food for a plan is in action. With Elze and her people at the gates everyone is forced into the mind for the day.

Lowen hunkers down until dusk when he runs twelve jugs of hephaestite to the dam, and after he runs a diversion with a fire he drops the poppy blob into the barrack's soup. After he waits for the camp to become deathly quiet he takes on the guard at the mines and he frees all the slaves.

Mabbi joins forces with the freed slaves, and while Armed with the weapons Lowen gathered the slaves all march on Monument, determined to end things on their terms.

Master Loch sees everything from his vantage point, and he returns to the Keep to tell Elze what he saw.
