PREDESTINATION: Chosen Or Free? PT1

Has God PREDESTINED us to heaven or hell or do we have FREE CHOICE to trust in Jesus Christ for our eternal salvation as offered to all who would come to Him? The Bible uses language such as chosen, the elect, but also that "Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9) NIV.
