Brain Death, COVID, and the Culture of Death

In Episode 3 of "A Band of Mary's Men," host Fr. Elias talks with veteran pro-life physician, neonatologist Dr. Paul Byrne, MD to talk about the controversy over the definition of death arising from the 1968 invention of the term "brain death," motivated by the desire to take a beating heart from one person and transplant it into another (the case then and in every heart transplant performed since). Other topics discussed include the controversy of science vs. pseudo-science, or non-sense masquerading as science in the public discussion of Covid-19 and the pandemic response, and how the present state of medicine reflects the corruption of the present "culture of death."

Dr. Paul A. Byrne is a board certified neonatologist and pediatrician. He is the founder of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, MO and clinical professor of pediatrics at University of Toledo College of Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Fellowship of Catholic Scholars.

Dr. Byrne is the author and producer of the film "Continuum of Life," and his other books include "Life, Life Support and Death," "Beyond Brain Death," and "Is 'Brain Death' True Death?" He has presented testimony on "life issues" to various state legislatures. opposed Dr. Kevorkian on the television program "Cross-Fire." He has been interviewed on television both nationally and internationally, and has authored articles against euthanasia, abortion, and "brain death" in medical journals, law literature and the popular press.
