What is actually Market Capitalization? If a company decides to go public and raise some money, it means that the company is going to sell a part of itself - make shares available to investors. It is known as IPO - Initial Public Offering.

Market Capitalization is the total dollar market value of a company. It's not the real value of a company, it's what the market thinks the value of the company is. The formula for market cap is outstanding shares X price for one share.
