A containment policy has been employed by the Vatican for more than 50 years in connection with the Traditional Latin Mass. Being concerned about the spread of traditional doctrine, traditional Sacraments, and traditional piety, the Holy See has largely sought to restrain the movement…to bottle it up…to limit its growth…and even resist the growing influence of Traditional Catholicism. The Modern Church might not be able to roll back the various gains made by the Traditional Mass and Ancient Faith, but perhaps the movement could be marginalized and kept in some restricted ecclesiastical ghetto.
