Is the CDC being alarmist on the Delta Variant?

CDC released new data on the Delta Variant in the United States showing that it is much more contagious and possibly more deadly. However the WHO says that the Delta Variant is not more deadly. Pfizer says it's vaccine has a 60% success rate against the Delta Variant. Is CDC being alarmist?
