So much of the state and federal response to COVID-19 has been driven by political considerations. Since President Trump suggested hydroxychloroquine as a potential therapeutic, the media and medical establishment treated this 60-year-old drug as more dangerous than rat poison.

General manager of Ontario retirement home charged after residents' door handles removed

The general manager of a retirement home in Courtice, Ont., is facing charges after he ordered staff members to remove door handles at some units at the White Cliffe Terrace Retirement Residence in February.

Durham Regional Police Services launched an investigation on Feb. 12 after receiving a complaint against staff members at White Cliffe, which is on Highway 2 in Courtice, about 60 kilometres east of Toronto.

The complaint alleged that during the pandemic, staff removed door handles to some units at the home. Police announced the charges on Wednesday against Tawab Karimi, 40, of Oshawa, Ont. He is charged with two counts of unlawful confinement

Famed Johns Hopkins doctor Marty Makary recently wondered why “amid the dire Covid warnings, one crucial fact has been largely ignored: Cases are down 77% over the past six weeks.”

He points out that “If a medication slashed cases by 77%, we’d call it a miracle pill.” The number of cases is “plummeting much faster than experts predicted” because Makary writes, “natural immunity from prior infection is far more common than can be measured by testing.”

Today, like yesterday and tomorrow, news outlets will announce the number of new COVID-19 cases. “Cases,” in this case, will be the number of people who tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday’s announcement. In the spirit of accentuate the negative and eliminate the positive, the number of people who tested negative for COVID-19 will not be announced.
