S1/E5 – What’s In A Letter; Traveling The Misinformation/Disinformation Highway

In this episode Joe and Jon define the difference between misinformation and disinformation. Misinformation is that which may or not be the intentional dissemination of false information. Disinformation, on the other hand is intentional in that its dissemination is solely for the purpose of misleading in order to deflect attention from one place to another, usually when a scandal is unfolding. It is also deployed in acts of collusion when advancing legislation and/or narratives the public would otherwise find unfavorable. Lastly it is used as a weapon in character assassination of an opponent or group that defers from the accepted norm being advanced in the public square.
