Suspense was one of the best radio programs of all time, and it was simply too good not to copy. The other American networks had to create their own imitations, but the BBC was able to copy the program almost directly, changing little more than the title and the host. The result was Appointment With Fear which used the same scripts, even the same music! The British “man in black” was veteran actor Valentine Dyall who hosted 9 of the ten series. The season he missed (perhaps due to Wartime commitments) he was replaced by his father, Franklin Dyall
