Prelude in Am
Johann Sebastian Bach Suite No. 2. in D minor, BWV 1008 Prelude
Arr. by Ferdinand David (1810-1873) trans to "A minor"
The Prelude here is so intricate that some might call it more mathematical than musical. That is nonsense, of course. Bach has such a fecundity of ideas that he decided to put them all down at once, leading to agitation, tension and a wealth of improvisatory themes. The final measures (with the exception of the last) are like a long arpeggio.
"Magnificent dance of life, how everything turns and moves, just like the swirl of dervishes in trance! Oh, wonderful stateof unconscious mind, the joy of ease and rapture of dizziness…spin me, whirl me, and turn me until we are both breathless! Wonderful rush, I beg you, stay! …I never want to wake up. "
