forge a simple c shaped flint striker

Today I am making a simple c shaped flint steel, or flint striker, for my flint and steel set. This is a simple project that all you need is a peace of a garage door spring or high carbon steel about 1/4 x 6-8 inch. I straighten it out to start then move on to cleaning up the ends. after that it is as simple as bending it into the shape you want. I used a bending jig I made but this can also be done over the horn of the anvil. Once I have the shape I want I heat the face up to almost non magnetic and face quench in oil. After that all I did was clean it up on a grinder or sander and just like that I took a peace of scrap steel and turned it into a valuable survival tool.
