As a dance style, baião is almost a “twin brother” of forró, as there are many similarities between these two manifestations.

Both are danced in pairs, have very similar movements and deal with the same theme, the way of life and the difficulties found in the northeastern hinterland of Brazil.

What differentiates the two rhythms a little bit are the indigenous and rustic influences found in the baião.

The style has in Luiz Gonzaga its main name, so much so that the artist, one of the main names in Brazilian popular music, became known around the world as the “Rei do Baião”.
