Envy vs. Jealousy

The Bible* makes a very clear distinction between jealousy, which can be righteous in some contexts, versus envy, which is always negative. While our English dictionaries say these words are synonyms, God's Word has specific uses for each.

(*Literal translations of Scripture, such as KJV, NKJV, NASB, etc., are consistent in their distinct use of these terms as they translate the original Hebrew and Greek texts into English. However, less literal versions of the Bible, to include paraphrases, may deviate from this practice.)
