What happens in Ukraine when government goes a little too far

What really happened at some non-descript suburb during the 2013–14 Ukrainian revolution. Public areas in Ukraine are paved with cobblestones, in contrast to North America where they are covered in concrete. This gives the upper hand in a protest to the American authorities because the pavement can't serve as missiles, as we see here. In the instant case, the authorities would have needed to give orders to shoot the protestors (augmentation of stakes) in order to regain control. That is a pyrrhic victory, besides which once the authorities loose the ultimate violence they can never be sure that they aren't the next target, witness Robespierre. This logic is why East Germany fell without a shot in 1989.
