Manatees graze peacefully on the shallows

Manatees are freshwater pinnipeds that feed on aquatic plants. They live in the Danube Delta and the Mississippi. They are rare, suffer greatly from pollution and motor boats. Perhaps they were the basis of the myths about mermaids.
