Episode 48: Design Problem - Fixing the Husqvarna Z52
A couple weeks ago Bryce was mowing and noticed that somebody’s BBQ didn’t smell so great. Soon he realized it was his mower that smelled like burning tires! The battery bracket detached by a screw that vibrated off. The batter, while connected to the mower, slipped off the battery shelf and fell on to the belts on the deck WHILE IT WAS ON. It cut big grooves into the battery and destroyed it. I’m getting about 8.5 volts on it right now. Battery acid went all over the place. The battery shredded on the belts and looked like black cotton candy!
What is the problem? it’s a bad design. The bracket nut fell off. There is no lip on the side that matters. Bryce fixes the problem with the design by using the welder.
Have you ever had to modify a poor design? Did you make it better or worse?
