FDR Fireside Chat - Columbus Day, 1942

While liberals today seek to discredit and condemn Columbus Day, their beloved FDR actually celebrated it. Here's why.
In 1937, Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt actually instituted Columbus Day as a federal holiday. And, in Oct. 12, 1940 remarks celebrating Columbus Day, he explained why celebrating Columbus Day is important.
FDR apparently saw Columbus Day as an opportunity to celebrate and honor the qualities of vision, faith, courage and perseverance in the face of "grievous trial" - not as an opportunity to disparage America.
He also apparently considered the day an opportunity to reflect on the efforts that resulted in the creation of the greatest, freest, most prosperous nation on the face of the Earth...
