Knowing Jesus Messiah; Luke 4:14-22

Delivered during the Sunday morning worship service, 10/17/2021. After an extensive introduction, Luke finally turns to the Galilean ministry of Christ by taking us to Nazareth where Jesus confronts His childhood community in the synagogue. Already a celebrated Rabbi, Jesus reads from the book of Isaiah concerning the true nature of the coming Messiah. In sharp contrast to what satan tempted Him to become in the temptations, Jesus clearly expresses, using the words of Isaiah, the mission and purpose of the prophesied Messiah. He then, in what must have been an intensely dramatic moment, reveals that Isaiah's words are fulfilled in Him. We will find the straight-forward Gospel in these glorious words and explain their profound meaning to every human being-- as we realize the eternal importance of truly knowing Jesus Messiah.
