The grip of monitor lizard

Monitor Lizards are an essential part of the animal kingdom and lethal predators. Their presence is utmost required in the forest as they help in maintaining the delicate Predator-Prey relationship.
Monitor lizards were regularly used by Great warrior Shivaji Maharaj to climb up the cliffs of Western Ghats and to gain access to the enemy forts on these steep heights.
It is called the Bis-cobra, Guishaap, Goshaap and famously the Ghorpad in Maharashtra.
Varanus bengalensis, the Common Indian Monitor is a large reptile, about 6-7 feet in length. It can climb very well and can hold on to the rocks with its terrific strength.
These Ghorpad were trained to climb and cling on to the rocks. A rope would be tied around its body and a Maratha warrior would climb up this rope and then fix more ropes for the rest of the army to climb.
The famous Kondhana -Sinhagad was won by the systematic use of the Monitor Lizard.
