Commission votes to remove Thomas Jefferson statue from NYC Council chamber

A city commission has voted to remove the Thomas Jefferson statue from the NYC Council Chamber by the end of this year. Some lawmakers said that Jefferson’s status as a slaveholder was problematic to the council’s African American members. Does everyone understand who Thomas Jefferson was? Do we need to take down all statues of our Founding Fathers now?
