DENDRITES: NATURAL FUNCTIONAL BEAUTY ARTS

Dendrites is a public art project by Montreal artist Louis Betel. The idea was to create a visual map of Montreal that would represent, in the form of trees, the main connections between downtown and Montreal's "North Shore" (where I live). Using Google Maps and Open Street Maps, Betel discovered that the two most trafficked areas–the highways—took on a fractal pattern, and gained inspiration from the functional beauty of this natural phenomenon.
