Is referring to Covid as the ‘China virus’ a racist thing to say?

Texans owner Cal McNair referred to Covid as the ‘China virus’ during a team gold event. He said this in front of a crowd of 100+ people and it apparently bothered some people causing them to call his remarks racist. This is where we are.
