A Teacher's Story

Tony Ruiz immigrated here from Cuba with his family as a young man. He knows what it is like to grow up in a Communist country. Tony is a former certified Tulsa Public School teacher. In 2019, he was substituting for a history teacher in the Bixby school system. Instead of leaving an hour and 30 minute video for the class, the regular classroom teacher left a one MINUTE, 30 second video for the class. As a certified teacher, Ruiz began to teach the class a bit about the subject they were studying. While explaining the difference between socialism and communism, several students walked out and went to the office where they complained about Ruiz. In response, the Principal came down to the classroom and told Ruiz to stop or he'd never teach in the Bixby school district again.
