Canadian and US military veterans jailed for nine years over plot to overthrow US government (Independent)

Fmr. Canadian Armed Forces reservist Patrik Jordan Mathews and US Army veteran Brian Mark Lemley Jr. were captured on FBI surveillance equipment plotting an attack aimed at bringing down the US govt.

The judge said the recorded conversations between Mathews and Lemley captured the ‘virulence’ and ‘passion’ in their willingness to kill people to achieve their goals — before sentencing them to nine years prison.

Mathews and Lemley told the court they were sorry for their remarks after their defense team argued an undercover FBI agent had tried to pressure the two “damaged military veterans” into developing a plan for violence
