Georgian opposition supporters rally in Rustavi on Saturday, November 6 to demand the release of former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili from custody. The protest takes place outside the prison where Saakashvili is currently being held. Saakashvili was arrested on October 1 after he returned to his homeland ahead of the municipal elections in Georgia. The former president was charged with abuse of power and sentenced to a combined nine years in jail in absentia in 2013, when he fled the country. He has denied the charges. The rally comes one week after the ruling Georgian Dream party won the second round of the municipal elections on October 30.

Anhänger der georgischen Opposition demonstrieren am Samstag, den 6. November, in Rustavi, um die Freilassung des ehemaligen georgischen Präsidenten Michail Saakaschwili aus der Haft zu fordern. Der Protest findet vor dem Gefängnis statt, in dem Saakaschwili derzeit inhaftiert ist. Saakaschwili wurde am 1. Oktober verhaftet, nachdem er im Vorfeld der Kommunalwahlen in Georgien in sein Heimatland zurückgekehrt war. Der ehemalige Präsident wurde 2013, als er aus dem Land floh, wegen Machtmissbrauchs angeklagt und in Abwesenheit zu insgesamt neun Jahren Haft verurteilt. Er hat die Vorwürfe bestritten. Die Kundgebung findet eine Woche nach dem Sieg der Regierungspartei Georgischer Traum in der zweiten Runde der Kommunalwahlen am 30. Oktober statt.
