•His audience is largely gentile but Paul speaks of
“our” fathers Examples of Warning
•Don’t crave evil things
•Don’t be idolators –
• Exodus 32:6 ...The people sat down to eat and
drink, and rose up to make merry (party down)
•Don’t be sexually immoral
•Don’t test God- Israel and Corinthians did it
•Don’t grumble –
• Corinthians didn’t like certain leaders
• Didn’t like being told to stop sexual sins
• Impatience with their ‘weaker’ brothers
•Paul brings it home, Israel failed and so can you
•Failure was not inevitable – they could resist
temptation
