Printz v. United States wasa case brought by County Sheriffs against the Clinton Administration's Gun Control Brady Bill, 1993. The US Congress passed the law which required State Chief Executive Law Enforcement Officers, Sheriffs, to do background checks on potential gun owners. The Sheriffs claimed this violated their Constitutional Oaths of Office and that they were being asked to choose between upholding the US Constitution or an illegal Federal Law.
