Supply demand or manipulation of confidence

Are FOMC member concerned with money supply/demand? Or manipulation of confidence? Are they focused on market operations? Or psychological ones? It's likelier we'll see a psychologist or lexicographer as the next Fed chair than a bond trader or money manager.
