This song is about those "who am I and what am I doing" moments that we all have. I was once in a bar with friends. The band took a break. I was standing near the stage. "New Years Day" by U2 was being played over the PA. I, in FULL "beer goggle" mode am singing along and I think, "U2 you can go ahead and fire Boner cuz I'm killin' it. You don't need him anymore". At which point one of my friends grabs me frantically screaming "shut the f$ck up". I turn and every person jn the bar is staring at me. The lead singer had left his microphone on. It was as if I had just woken up somewhere. And I have had other such "who am I" moments but that is the funniest one and when I thought up the concept for the lyrics that is the one I thought of. At that point I had all of the music and had named it "Chinese Disco" because of the main riff and the drums under the chorus. I thought to myself, "What would be the strangest PLACE to just suddenly wake up?" A Chinese disco would be pretty weird and so I went with that.
