Hand drumming technique using the traditional drum hand grip.

Making the change using different hand technique, sure comes in (handy) when you are in the mists of a musical piece where you may need to change gears from maybe a funky beat to a more subtle swing feel to complement the change in the music.
For me I always work on my hands on the practice pad and listen until I get it sounding right and then at that point bring it to the drum set to see how well I worked and how all my work translates on the drums.The beautiful thing about being prepared before translating to the drum kit is things start coming out of what you worked on that may turn into something unexpected and opens a whole new musical avenue.
