There are a few things we need to do before we die. They are the foundation of a well-lived life. They are #1. Know Thyself. and #2 Express Thyself. These two ideas sum up our work here as human beings. When we know ourselves we know what our work is...what we came here to do, and beyond that, how we are built, what we're well suited to do. Then our work, which requires courage, focus, commitment, will, and discipline (not to mention a slew of other high qualities) is to express who we are in ways that help other people.
