The Lord of the Catch; Luke 5:1-11
Delivered during the Sunday morning worship service, 11/28/2021. In the first four chapters of His Gospel, Dr. Luke has impressed upon us the divinity of Christ, and His power over both illness and the demonic world of evil. He has made it clear to us that Jesus' mission and purpose as the Messiah was to fulfill the Word of God concerning the Messiah and preach the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven. In our passage for this morning, Jesus provides an object lesson to illustrate what He means when He calls His disciples to become "fishers of men". In a miraculous event that is almost allegorical in nature, we will see a presentation of the mission and purpose of the church in the Kingdom of God and the absolute preeminence of Jesus in the "apostling" process. For He and He alone is the Lord of the Catch!
