They left out one of the most fascinating aspects of the study. They said only that people said what they did for "various reasons". The most fascinating is that many people reported that they ACTUALLY BELIEVED the obviously wrong answer to be the right one. That is a far more subversive effect of group think than merely 'not wanting to make waves'.
