It was only when we got bored that we tended to despise each other.

But not this week, this week we would work together for a common cause.

Just after school was our best bet, there would be no supervision, they trusted us to make good choices.

There was no stranger danger although we kept an eye on the hippies across the street.

We'd been talking about it for weeks, but now was the day that the plan would be set into action.

We knew the rent's played a role but it was ours to determine how much an active roll was given.

I made a map of the second floor showing the stairs heading down to the living room.

We crept around and marked an X on the plan showing every creak the floor made.

We made reference to every stairs step to stay off of before we opened the living room door.

It would be a monumental task to creep through the house unnoticed.

From that doorway at the bottom of the stairs was a direct shot at the bay window where the Christmas tree was erected.

The goal was to creep down after the rents had gone to bed to see Santa come down the chimney.

The plan, the best made plan, the plan of all plans.

We were ready, but as fate would have it we fell asleep waiting on the rents to call it a shift.

The plan couldn't be implemented.

We woke to a fresh snowfall and gifts under the tree.

Santa even took a moment to snack on some cookies and milk and he took all the carrots for the reindeer.

Outside the tracks revealed he had gone through the block spreading his Christmas gift giving to even the hippies.

What we didn't know was which gifts were from him and which ones were from the rents. #dbrn
