Senator Rand Paul has released his annual tally of wasteful spending, the Festivus Report. Senator Paul tallied $52.6 billion in waste this year. With a federal budget in excess of $2 trillion, maybe $52 billion doesn't seem like much, so let's put it in perspective. $52.6 billion could:
Build a 4 Lane highway from New York to LA five times or
Give $365 to every US taxpayer
Fund the Department of Energy for nearly two years.
Our national unfunded liabilities exceed $123 trillion and Congress studied the effects of junk food on kids.
The DOD spent $549 million on aircraft that they ended up selling as scrap for $40,000. Crackheads make better financial decisions.
