A Redemption for Sinners Only; Luke 5:27-32

Delivered during the Sunday morning worship service, 12/19/2021. Luke continues to discuss and define the Good News of the Kingdom of God. After establishing its centrality in the preaching ministry of Jesus, we have learned the nature of the Good News-- that it accomplishes both the forgiveness of sins and the imputation of perfect righteousness, two elements of redemption that are absolutely necessary for a relationship with God. In this lesson, we will learn that the Good News is not for everyone. That those who are arrogant and self-righteous will never understand the "goodness" of the Good News and will therefore pit themselves against it rather than open their hearts to accept it. Jesus will emphasize the necessity of true repentance for all those who would follow Him and be saved-- thereby establishing that the Good News is redemption for sinners only.
