Cur Deus Homo; Luke 2:8-14

Delivered on Christmas Eve, 12/24/2021. The medieval Theologian Anselm of Canterbury asked the burning question "Cur Deus Homo" or "Why the God-man". Basically Anselm was asking why it was necessary for God Himself to take on the attributes of a human, place Himself under His own law and tabernacle amongst us-- in order to save humanity from itself? We will try to answer this epic and eternal question by first making our way through Scripture and identifying the various parts of the puzzle: the God of Creation, the God of holiness, the humans He made in His image, the Fall from grace, and the sin that separated them. Then we will attempt to bring these profound aspects of Theology together by expositing the story of the angel's proclamation of the birth of Christ to the shepherds. For in the events of that Holy Night, in a field outside of Bethlehem, we will discover the reason for "Cur Deus Homo"!
