Comparison of 10" versus 9" LED display board panels

Test conditions

-- Date/time: Jan 1 2022 2:20pm PST, northern Calif.
-- Both display panels connected to the same 12v 35Ah AGM battery.
-- Voltage during the test held steady at 12.4v.
-- Both panels were slightly tilted down (by ~2 degrees) to point any red acrylic filter reflections down and away from the viewing direction.
-- Sun was behind and to the right of the panels.

Top display panel:

-- Uses the Embedded-Ability.com GliderScore Display Interface

-- Panel is wireless using a GridConnect ATC-863 RS-232 adapter
-- Uses 10" high LED display boards from the open source project

-- LEDs used: super bright diffused lens red LEDs (28 LEDs per segment, 7 segments total)
-- LED current: ~10mA with 4 LEDs per string
-- With all segments lit each digit draws ~490mA @ 12.4v
-- With the display interface Power Saver option (zero blanking) when running 10:00 time countdowns the entire panel draws between 0.7A and 1.1A, averaging ~0.9A.
