THE SILVER LINING

The last 24 months has tested our civilization like no other time in my 46 years. Throughout the course of human history, unimaginable brutality has been present on every continent populated by man - now it is our turn. What will we do? Will we rise to the challenge as our ancestors did (made evident by the fact that we are all still here) or will we allow this to end us? I for one believe in us. I believe in our capacity for good. How can I not? Where once there were men enslaved, I witnessed their children lead the country that once denied their father’s were men at all. We are better today than we were yesterday and we accomplished this together. We are being tested and this final exam will unite the righteous. There will always be monsters in the dark and the useful idiots that aid them in their devouring of all that is good. But as many monsters as there are hiding under our beds and in our closets - they will always be exponentially outnumbered by the warriors at the gate. Those strong enough to stand their ground in the face of hurled stones are not defiant, they’re principled. The irony is that it was the monsters that divided the country, weaponized one side against the other, and then provided the stones. All the while those with calloused hands from gripping the rocks tightly have fallen so deep under the monster’s spell that they celebrate every bruised body they help to create. Even so I still believe. The warriors at the gate have not faltered and their numbers grow with every stone thrown. Our bodies may be bruised, but we are unbroken and we are still standing.
