‘I Feel So Much Harmony in My Heart,’ says Former Professor of Music after Shen Yun
Days before the New Year, people filled the theaters in San Diego, California, to attend Shen Yun performances on Dec. 28 and 29.
“I think it’s an amazing show—unbelievably colorful, unbelievably touchable—you know, my soul. Because all dancers look like birds in the air,” said Valentina Frank, a former music teacher.
Frank said she taught music, including piano, for 15 years. This is her second time watching Shen Yun.
“For me, being a classical musician—its oriental music is a little different, but I enjoyed it so much. I feel so much harmony in my heart,” she said. “And I feel so spiritual after the concert. I think the orchestra today was on the top of their show, thank you.”
The performers use techniques from classical Chinese dance to convey their feelings on stage.
“The classical Chinese dancing is so unique. Just the way they hold their hands. The way they move, the ability, the strength that goes along with the delicate nature of the dance—it’s very advanced,” said Jennifer King, president of several companies.
“It was inspiring, it was illuminating, it was very nice. One can feel that basically the energy and the vibrance from the dancers was really fantastic, how they communicate with the audience—very nice. I really like it,” said Fernando Lopez, an oncology diagnostics scientist.
“I think that people should come to the show,” he added.
The artists draw inspiration from ancient China’s spirituality and belief in the divine.
“I get the spirituality and I hope for your sake, and everybody in China, that it comes back soon,” King said.
“It really raises the idea of humanity, it raises the idea of the individual, it raises the idea of the thought that people are divine, that everybody was created with this divinity. And I think that’s a terrific message,” said Byron Harlim, a former news anchor and reporter.
“I love the show, man,” he said.
Shen Yun has upcoming performances at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido from Jan. 13 to 17.
