Boys and girls have different ways to gain status. The landmark research of Ritch Savin-Williams led the way in showing how these differences manifest. Savin Williams placed researchers in boy's and girl's cabins for a summer camp and they counted behaviors. He found the fascinating split of the more active masculine paths and the more passive feminine paths. This is not hard to spot today nor is the double standard that pathologizes the masculine and turns a blind eye to the feminine.
